About CFN
What is Cazadores de Fake News?

Cazadores de Fake News (CFN) is a community that detects and verifies disinformation in Venezuela and Latin America. Our goal is to identify, analyze, and debunk cases of disinformation that affect Venezuelans and Latin Americans.

We are a non-governmental organization founded in 2019 and legally registered in Santiago, Chile on December 16, 2021 (RUT 65.206.315-2).

What is Cazadores de Fake News’ stance on disinformation?

We believe that civil society should receive accurate and transparent information, without bias, to strengthen its resilience against disinformation. We address disinformation regardless of its political origin or who it affects.

Our philosophy is detailed in the Cazadores Manifesto →

Is Cazadores de Fake News composed only of journalists?

No. Our community consists of people from a wide range of professions: journalists, educators, lawyers, engineers, human rights activists, researchers, and many other backgrounds. That diversity allows us to approach disinformation from multiple perspectives and with greater depth.

Our Work
What cases does Cazadores de Fake News verify?

We only cover cases that meet all three of the following criteria:

  • Virality: We prioritize content that is viral on at least two social networks, reported through the Central Cazadores chatbot, or disseminated through mass media such as radio, press, or television.
  • Relevance: We select cases that are highly relevant to Venezuela or Venezuelans, especially those related to public health, elections, discrimination, natural disasters, and influence operations against journalists or human rights defenders.
  • Verifiability: We only verify claims that can be proven or refuted using reliable sources and tangible data. We do not verify opinions or predictions.
